Wegovy is a new prescription medication for weight loss so once it becomes available you’ll need to answer a few questions for one of our UK registered clinicians to take a look over. No need to waste your time at a doctor’s appointment or queueing at the pharmacy.

Why should I use Wegovy as a weight loss treatment?

It can be useful for those diagnosed as obese or those who have been diagnosed with a weight-related health condition, such as hypertension and high cholesterol.

Can I buy Wegovy over the counter?

Wegovy has been licensed as a prescription weight loss medication. You can’t get it over the counter as it requires monitoring by a clinician to check it’s effectiveness.

What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is an injection weight loss treatment that uses the active ingredient semaglutide. The glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist is injected subcutaneously once a week. It acts on part of the brain that regulates hunger and appetite.

Wegovy uses a higher dose of semaglutide than the diabetes treatment, Ozempic.

Wegovy vs Saxenda: what’s the difference?

Wegovy and Saxenda are both weight loss injections. However, they use different active ingredients. Semaglutide and liraglutide are both GLP-1 receptor agonists. They act on the brain to give a feeling of fullness so that users reduce their calorie intake.

Wegovy isn’t currently available to buy, whereas Saxenda is. If you want to find out if you should use Wegovy or Saxenda then our expert clinicians can help.

Who shouldn’t take Wegovy?

Wegovy won’t be a suitable weight loss treatment for everyone. You’ll need to meet certain criteria for it to be considered as a treatment. This means your BMI needs to be over 30 or over 27, when combined with a weight-related health condition.

You’ll need to answer some questions on your health so that our prescribers can assess whether Wegovy is a suitable option.
